1969 Topps #126 Dick Tracewski

About Dick Tracewski
In his final major league season, Tracewski appeared in 66 games for the Tigers, mostly at shortstop, batting just .139 with 4 RBIs and 10 runs scored in 79 at-bats before retiring as a player at year's end. Card #126, from the second series, was his last as an active player and pictures him with Detroit just before he moved into coaching.
Dick Tracewski was a utility infielder who spent eight big league seasons split between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit Tigers, playing shortstop, second base and third base. Signed by Brooklyn out of Pennsylvania in 1953, he needed six minor league seasons plus two years of military duty before debuting in 1962 in the first-ever series at the new Dodger Stadium. He was a steady reserve on the Dodgers' 1963 and 1965 championship clubs, then went to Detroit in a trade for pitcher Phil Regan and helped the Tigers win the 1968 World Series. He retired as a player after the 1969 season with a .213 career average, then spent parts of three decades coaching for Detroit, including two brief stretches as interim manager. Teammates nicknamed him for his acrobatics at team pool parties.
