1970 Topps #239 Ken Berry

About Ken Berry
Berry's 1970 brought a Gold Glove and a .276 average for the White Sox. He had 7 home runs and 50 RBI in 141 games. On May 15 he hit a pair of two-run homers against the Royals, and on June 7 he collected three singles and a home run against the Yankees. His fielding percentage led American League outfielders. Card #239 comes from the second series. On November 30, 1970 he went to the Angels with Syd O'Brien and Billy Wynne for Jay Johnstone, Tom Egan and Tom Bradley.
Allen Kent Berry broke in with the Chicago White Sox as a 21-year-old center fielder in September 1962 and spent parts of nine seasons with the club as a good defensive outfielder. A right-handed hitter out of Kansas City, Missouri, he earned his lone All-Star selection in 1967 as the White Sox chased the pennant into the season's final days, and he backed that up with Gold Glove awards in 1970 and 1972. Traded to the California Angels after the 1970 season, Berry played there through 1973, then closed his career with Milwaukee in 1974 and Cleveland in 1975. Over fourteen big-league seasons he hit .255 with 1,053 hits and a .989 fielding percentage, leading American League outfielders in fielding percentage three times. He was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
