1970 Topps #703 Lou Marone

About Lou Marone
Marone's 1970 season lasted one game: 2 1/3 innings on April 18, which left him with a 3.86 ERA for the year. His #703 card, a high number from the seventh and final series, is his rookie card and shows him alone with Pittsburgh.
Lou Marone was a left-handed relief pitcher from San Diego who appeared in 30 major league games for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1969 and 1970. Pittsburgh took him in the 30th round of the 1965 draft out of San Diego City College and San Diego Mesa College. He was in his fifth professional season when the Pirates recalled him in May 1969 after he posted a 0.93 ERA with six saves in 17 relief games for Double-A York. In his rookie year he worked 29 games and 35 1/3 innings with a 2.55 ERA. A final appearance in April 1970, against the St. Louis Cardinals, ended his big league career at 1-1 with a 2.63 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings. He finished his eight-year professional career in the Pirates' minor league system in 1972. He was the cousin of pitcher John D'Acquisto. Marone died in Henderson, Nevada, in 2015.
