About Paul Edmondson
Edmondson started 13 of the 14 games he pitched for the 1969 White Sox. His 3.70 ERA was the second best among the six Chicago pitchers who started ten or more games. He went 1-6 with 46 strikeouts in 87 2/3 innings. His 1970 Topps card is #414 in the fourth series, a rookie card printed with the White Sox.
Paul Edmondson was a 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher whose major league career ran from June 20 to September 25, 1969, all with the Chicago White Sox. Born in Kansas City, Kansas, he played baseball and basketball for the Matadors at California State University, Northridge. The White Sox drafted him in the 21st round (419th overall) in June 1965, the first amateur draft ever held. He made his debut with a complete-game two-hitter in a 9-1 win over the California Angels. Edmondson died on February 13, 1970, the day after his 27th birthday, when his car skidded on rain-soaked U.S. Route 101 near Santa Barbara, California, and crashed into oncoming traffic; his passenger also died. The accident came two weeks before spring training, and the White Sox had hoped he would become their fourth starter. He is buried at Valley Oaks Memorial Park.
