About Jim Britton
Jim Britton returned to the majors with the Montreal Expos in 1971. He made 16 appearances, six of them starts. His record was 2-3 with a 5.72 ERA over 45 2/3 innings. Card #699 belongs to the sixth print series and shows him with the Expos.
Jim Britton was a right-handed pitcher from North Tonawanda, New York, standing 6 ft 5 in and 225 lb. He turned down a football scholarship to Penn State and signed as an amateur free agent with the Baltimore Orioles in 1961, then was taken by the Atlanta Braves in the first-year draft in November 1962. Britton reached the majors with Atlanta on September 20, 1967, and in that debut he surrendered a three-run home run to Johnny Bench, the first of Bench's career. In 1968 he worked 34 games for Atlanta with a 3.10 ERA. Traded to the Montreal Expos in December 1969 along with a minor leaguer for pitcher Larry Jaster, he lost the following season to arm trouble and pitched his last major league game on September 25, 1971. Over four seasons he went 13-16 with a 4.03 ERA across 76 games. After baseball he became a special agent with the FBI.
