1971 Topps #112 Manny Mota

About Manny Mota
As Licey's player-manager, Mota went 11-for-19 and won MVP honors at the 1971 Caribbean Series, where the Dominican club finished 6-0. He batted .312 with 34 RBI in 91 games for Los Angeles that year. His first-series 1971 Topps Dodgers card was #112.
Manny Mota signed with the New York Giants in 1957 for a $400 bonus. His minor league path took him from Michigan City to Tacoma before his major league debut with San Francisco in 1962. He played twenty major league seasons and batted .304, becoming a pinch-hitting specialist with the Dodgers. He established the major league career pinch-hit record in 1979; Lenny Harris broke it in 2001. Mota coached Los Angeles from 1980 through 2013 and also worked on its Spanish-language broadcasts. His father, Andres, gave him the nickname El Chory, roughly meaning Shorty. Two sons, Andy and Jose, also reached the majors.
