1971 Topps #37 Rich McKinney

About Rich McKinney
After the White Sox lost nine of ten games following their 1971 home opener, manager Chuck Tanner moved McKinney to the outfield. He hit .271 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs, mostly at second base and in right field. As a pinch hitter he went 11-for-19. His rookie card is #37, in the first series, and it shows him with Chicago.
Rich McKinney was a right-handed hitting infielder and outfielder who played parts of seven seasons between 1970 and 1977 for the White Sox, Yankees and Athletics. A catcher and shortstop at Ohio University, where he made first-team All-MAC in 1967 and 1968, he was the 14th overall pick of the 1968 draft by Chicago and received a $25,000 bonus. He debuted June 26, 1970, starting at third base, a position he had never played professionally. His 1971 season with Chicago was the best of his career. Chicago traded him to the Yankees for Stan Bahnsen that December. He later spent most of 1974 through 1976 at Triple-A Tucson before a last big-league season in 1977. He finished with a .225 average, 20 home runs and 100 RBIs.
