The story on this card
July 18, 1971 was the day Lolich reached the majors, and he got into two games for the White Sox that season, collecting one hit in eight at-bats. His card is #458, a multi-player Rookie Stars card from Series Four. He shares it with Dave Lemonds; both men are printed with the Chicago White Sox, and it is the rookie card for each. Ron Lolich, an outfielder and cousin of pitcher Mickey Lolich, played 87 major league games for the White Sox and Indians between 1971 and 1973. His April 22, 1973 walk-off grand slam gave Cleveland an 8-7 win over the Boston Red Sox.
The Cubs traded Lemonds, Roe Skidmore and Pat Jacquez to the White Sox for Ossie Blanco and Jose Ortiz on November 30, 1970. His major league experience then consisted of two 1969 Cubs pitching appearances: 4 2/3 innings, a 0-1 record and a 3.86 ERA. His 1971 Topps #458 listed him with Ron Lolich as White Sox Rookie Stars; it was the rookie card for both men. Dave Lemonds played for Charlotte Post 9 under his father, Jack. Their American Legion team reached consecutive national championship games in 1964 and 1965, winning the title in 1965.
