1972 Topps #776 Bill Voss

About Bill Voss
Platooned in the outfield for Milwaukee in 1971, Voss hit .251 with a career-high 10 home runs in 97 games. His 1972 Topps card, #776 in the sixth series, carries the Brewers name. That spring he faced a crowded Milwaukee outfield that included Billy Conigliaro, Joe Lahoud, Curt Motton, Brock Davis and Dave May.
William Edward Voss, an outfielder from Glendale, California, spent eight major-league seasons with the Chicago White Sox, California Angels, Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals. A left-handed hitter, he graduated from Newport Harbor High School, played at Orange Coast College and Long Beach State, and signed with Detroit before the White Sox claimed him in the first-year draft. He made his debut on September 14, 1965, pinch-running for Smoky Burgess, and got his first hit, a home run off Denny McLain, on September 21. Injuries shaped much of his career, including a fractured jaw from a Pete Richert pitch in 1968 and a broken wrist in 1970. In 1969 with the Angels he hit .261 in 133 games and drove in 40 runs. He finished his career in 1972 after brief stints with three clubs.
