About Billy Conigliaro
On October 10, 1971, Boston sent Billy Conigliaro, George Scott, Jim Lonborg, Ken Brett, Joe Lahoud and Don Pavletich to Milwaukee for Tommy Harper, Marty Pattin, Lew Krausse and Pat Skrable. His 1972 Topps card, #481, a fourth-series issue, pictures him with the Brewers. In 52 games that season he batted .230 with 7 home runs and 16 RBI.
William Michael Conigliaro, born August 15, 1947 in Revere, Massachusetts, was an outfielder who played five major league seasons for the Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Oakland Athletics from 1969 to 1973. He was the younger brother of Tony Conigliaro, and the Red Sox drafted him in the first round, fifth overall, in the 1965 inaugural MLB draft. After four minor league seasons he debuted in 1969 and became a regular in 1970, when he and Tony combined for a then-record 54 home runs by brothers on the same team. A ten-player trade sent him to Milwaukee after the 1971 season, and he later played for Oakland, reaching the 1973 American League Championship Series and World Series. He batted right and threw right, standing 6 feet tall and 180 pounds. He finished his career with a .256 batting average, 40 home runs and 128 RBIs over 347 games. He died in 2021 at age 73.
