1972 Topps #402 Bobby Heise

About Bobby Heise
The 1972 season brought Heise career highs of 95 games and 271 at-bats, mostly at second base as he saw more time at third. He hit .266 with 12 RBI. Card #402, from the fourth series, shows him with the Brewers, the club he had joined the previous June.
Bob Heise was a utility infielder who appeared in 499 major league games between 1967 and 1977, playing for seven clubs: the Mets, Giants, Brewers, Cardinals, Angels, Red Sox and Royals. He was born in San Antonio to a military family and grew up in Vacaville, California, where Mets scout Roy Partee signed him after Bud Harrelson spoke up for him. He debuted on September 12, 1967, going 1-for-4 with a single against Atlanta, and hit .323 in 16 games. His only major league home run came June 30, 1970, off Danny Coombs of the Padres at Candlestick Park, in a lineup that also held Bobby Bonds, Willie Mays and Willie McCovey. A bench player on the 1975 Red Sox pennant winner, he had a four-hit, five-RBI day in a July 6 doubleheader at Cleveland. After retiring he served 26 years as a police officer.
