1972 Topps #475 Gary Nolan

About Gary Nolan
Gary Nolan had 13 wins before the 1972 All-Star Game and was picked for the National League squad, but neck and shoulder pains put him on the disabled list and he was withdrawn. He returned to the rotation and finished 15-5 with a 1.99 ERA, second in the league to Steve Carlton. Cincinnati reached the World Series, where Oakland won in seven games and Nolan went 0-1. His #475, from the fourth series, shows him with the Reds.
Gary Nolan was a right-handed Cincinnati Reds pitcher who reached the majors at 18, one year after the club selected him 13th overall in the 1966 draft. In his debut on April 15, 1967, he struck out the side in the first inning against Houston. He finished that season 14-8 with a 2.58 ERA and 206 strikeouts, placing third in National League Rookie of the Year voting. Across ten major league seasons with Cincinnati and the California Angels, Nolan compiled a 110-70 record, a 3.08 ERA and 1,039 strikeouts. He pitched in 250 games, completed 45 and threw 14 shutouts. The Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame inducted him in 1983.
