About Marty Pattin

A ten-player trade on October 10, 1971, took Pattin from Milwaukee to Boston. He went 17-13 with a 3.24 ERA and 13 complete games for the Red Sox in 1972. One no-hit bid ended when Oakland's Reggie Jackson singled with one out in the ninth. His Boston card, #144, appeared in the second series.

Marty Pattin worked as both a starter and reliever during 13 major league seasons from 1968 through 1980 with the California Angels, Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers, Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals. The right-hander made 224 starts in 475 appearances. He finished with 114 wins, a 3.62 ERA and 1,179 strikeouts. He earned an All-Star selection with Milwaukee in 1971. At Eastern Illinois University, he struck out 22 of the 27 batters he retired against Illinois State on April 23, 1965. The Angels selected him in the seventh round of that year's draft. Nicknamed Duck for his Donald Duck impersonation, Pattin later coached the University of Kansas baseball team from 1982 through 1987.
