About Garry Jestadt

In 1972, his last major league season, he appeared in 92 games for the Padres and hit .246. All six of his career home runs came that year, along with 22 RBI. His final game was October 4. Card #143 comes from the second series and shows him with San Diego.

Garry Jestadt was a right-handed infielder who played parts of three major league seasons with the Expos, Cubs and Padres, and spent 1971 and 1972 as San Diego's backup second and third baseman. Born in Chicago, he graduated from Fremont High School in Oakland, then attended Arizona State before the Cubs took him in the seventh round of the first amateur draft in June 1965. After four seasons in the minors, Montreal chose him 43rd in the October 1968 National League expansion draft. His 118 major league hits included 18 doubles, one triple and six home runs. He also played 11 seasons of minor league ball and two in Nippon Professional Baseball.
