1972 Topps #435 Reggie Jackson

About Reggie Jackson
Jackson's 1972 Topps cards included AL home run leaders #90 with Bill Melton and Norm Cash, fourth-series #435 and In Action #436, all listing Oakland. He batted .265 with 25 home runs that season. In the deciding fifth ALCS game against Detroit, he stole home for the tying run and tore a hamstring on the play. The injury kept him out of the World Series.

He hit 563 home runs and drove in 1,702 runs, and his 2,597 strikeouts set the major-league career record for a batter. Kansas City selected him second overall from Arizona State in the 1966 draft; he debuted in 1967 and moved with the Athletics to Oakland the next year. He was a member of Oakland's 1972-74 World Series championship clubs and the Yankees' 1977-78 champions. In 1973 he led the American League with 32 home runs and 117 RBI, winning its MVP award unanimously and the World Series MVP award.
