The story on this card
In 1972 Foor walked six in 3 2/3 innings of relief for Detroit and finished with a 14.73 ERA. He was 1-0, the only win of his career. His card, #257, is the Tigers Rookies entry from the second series, shared with Tim Hosley and Paul Jata, each printed with the Tigers and each on his rookie card. Many called the set's design "psychedelic tombstones," a break from the rectangular designs of other years. Left-handed reliever drafted 15th overall by the Detroit Tigers in 1967. He pitched six innings over 13 games for the Tigers and Pirates from 1971 to 1973, then was traded to Kansas City for Wayne Simpson in March 1974.
Hosley appears on Rookie Stars card #257 alongside Jim Foor and Paul Jata, all three listed with Detroit, and it is the rookie card for each. Hosley had debuted with the Tigers on September 8, 1970. In 1971 he played 7 games for Detroit, hitting .188 with 2 home runs. Catcher who appeared in 208 games for the Tigers, Athletics and Cubs between 1970 and 1981. His best year was 1975 with Chicago, when he hit .255 with six home runs; he was a member of Oakland's 1973 and 1974 champions.
After marrying Mary Olson on June 12, 1971, Jata had a 14-game hitting streak for the Toledo Mud Hens. A strong 1972 spring camp earned him a roster spot, and Billy Martin said in April he preferred to use him as the No. 3 catcher and at first base. Jata hit .230 with 17 hits and 3 RBI. He played 12 games at first base and one behind the plate. His 1972 Topps rookie card, Tigers Rookies #257 from the second series, is shared with Jim Foor and Tim Hosley. Paul Jata was a utility player from Astoria, Queens, who played 32 games for the 1972 Detroit Tigers, his only major league season, and was later traded to the Minnesota Twins for Jim Nettles.
