About Celerino Sanchez
Sanchez spent a few months with the Syracuse Chiefs in 1972, debuted for the Yankees on June 13 and held third base for the rest of the year. He played 71 games, 68 of them at third base. He hit .248 with 22 RBIs. Topps issued his rookie card as #103 in the first series of 1973.
Celerino Sanchez was a Mexican third baseman who played 105 games for the New York Yankees across 1972 and 1973 and hit .242. Born in El Guayabal, Veracruz, he starred in the Mexican League from 1964 to 1971, primarily with the Tigres del Mexico, before joining the Yankees organization in 1972. The arrival of Graig Nettles in 1973 pushed him into a backup role, and that year was his last in the major leagues. He returned to the Mexican leagues in 1976, played there until retiring in 1979, and was elected to the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994. He died in Leon, Guanajuato, on May 1, 1992.
