About Indians Field Leaders (Ken Aspromonte / Rocky Colavito / Joe Lutz / Warren Spahn)

In 1973, Aspromonte managed Cleveland to a 71-91 record, finishing sixth in the American League East. Before taking that job, he had spent two seasons managing Triple-A Wichita. Fourth-series Topps #449 listed him with coaches Rocky Colavito, Joe Lutz and Warren Spahn. A right-handed second baseman for six American and National League clubs from 1957 to 1963, Ken Aspromonte later played three seasons in Japan and managed the Cleveland Indians for three years in the early 1970s.

The Yankees released Colavito on September 30, 1968. Cleveland hired him as a WJW-TV broadcaster for 1972, and in 1973 he was the Indians' first-base coach. His fourth-series 1973 Topps card, #449, lists him with Ken Aspromonte, Joe Lutz and Warren Spahn. A six-time All-Star with one of the great throwing arms of his era, Rocky Colavito tied for the 1959 American League home run crown, homered four straight times in one game that June, and led the league in RBI for Cleveland in 1965.

Joe Lutz became the Cleveland Indians' first-base coach in 1971 after coordinating its minor league teams. He remained on the staff through 1973. Fourth-series 1973 Topps #449 listed Lutz with manager Ken Aspromonte and fellow coaches Rocky Colavito and Warren Spahn. Joe Lutz played first base for the 1951 St. Louis Browns before coaching Southern Illinois to two College World Series appearances. He later served on Cleveland's staff and coached and managed Japan's Hiroshima Carp.

Spahn served as Cleveland's pitching coach in 1972 after managing the Tulsa Oilers. His Tulsa club won the Pacific Coast League championship in 1968. Topps' fourth-series #449 listed him with manager Ken Aspromonte and fellow coaches Rocky Colavito and Joe Lutz. The winningest left-handed pitcher in baseball history, a Braves ace who won 20 games in 13 different seasons, threw no-hitters at 39 and 40, and was still going 23-7 at age 42.
