Highly regarded as a fielder at first base, he posted a .995 career fielding percentage. Hutton drew notice during his Phillies years for his success against Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver, batting .320 against him in 62 plate appearances with three home runs. Over 952 career games he hit .248 with 410 hits, 22 home runs and 186 RBI. After retiring as a player following the 1981 season, Hutton became a longtime broadcaster, working as a color analyst for the Expos, Yankees, Blue Jays, and for many years the Miami Marlins.
