About Frank Tepedino
Atlanta used Tepedino in 78 games in 1974, 46 of them at first base. He hit .231 with 16 RBI. He had arrived on June 7, 1973, in the Pat Dobson trade, with the Yankees adding Dave Cheadle and Al Closter that summer to finish the deal. His #526 lists the Atlanta Braves.
Frank Tepedino was a left-handed first baseman and outfielder who played in the majors from 1967 to 1975 for the Yankees, Brewers and Braves, hitting .241 with six home runs in 265 games. A Brooklyn native who graduated from Wingate High School in 1965, he was drafted by the Orioles in the third round that June and taken by the Yankees in the 1966 first-year draft. He debuted on May 12, 1967, pinch hitting for Whitey Ford in the third inning and popping out in a 14-0 loss to Baltimore at Yankee Stadium. After baseball he served with the New York Fire Patrol, and after the September 11 attacks he took part in search and rescue work at the World Trade Center site. On October 11, 2001, he threw out the first pitch before the second game of the Yankees' division series. With former teammate Rusty Torres he co-founded Winning for Winning, a Long Island program that speaks to young people about alcohol and drugs. He was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
