1974 Topps #439 Norm Miller

About Norm Miller
Houston traded Norm Miller to Atlanta for Cecil Upshaw on April 22, 1973. He appeared in 12 games that year between the Astros and Braves, hitting .273 with a home run and six RBI in 11 at-bats. Topps showed him with the Braves on 1974 card #439. He played 42 games in 1974, and his last major league game came on September 16.
Norm Miller, born Norman Calvin Miller in Los Angeles, California, played outfield in the majors from 1965 to 1974 for the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves. Signed out of Van Nuys High School by the Los Angeles Angels as a second baseman, he was taken by Houston in the 1964 Rule 5 draft and converted to the outfield. He reached the majors in 1965 as one of the youngest players in the National League and spent most of his career with the Astros before finishing with Atlanta. Over 540 games Miller collected 325 hits. He scored the winning run in the Astros' famous 1-0, 24-inning marathon against the New York Mets in 1968. A back injury shortened his career; he retired at 28 and later worked in the Astros' front office and as a sports radio host. He was inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.
