1976 Topps #302 Rick Miller

About Rick Miller
Card #302 follows a 1975 in which Miller played 77 games and hit .194, with Fred Lynn and Jim Rice taking the everyday jobs. He scored winning runs as a pinch-runner on April 12 against Baltimore and on June 4 against the White Sox, and had two pinch-hitting at-bats in the World Series against Cincinnati. He later called it the worst year he ever had.
Rick Miller was a left-handed-hitting center fielder who played 15 seasons in the majors, 12 of them with the Boston Red Sox and three with the California Angels (1978-80). A Michigan State product, he won the Big Ten batting title at .429 in 1969 and was Boston's second pick in that year's draft. He made his debut on September 4, 1971, and became known for defense in Fenway Park's center field, winning a Gold Glove with the Angels in 1978. The Red Sox reacquired him with Carney Lansford and Mark Clear for Rick Burleson and Butch Hobson on December 10, 1980. He hit .269 with 1,046 hits and 28 home runs in 1,482 games. In 1983 he went 17-for-36 as a pinch-hitter. He is Carlton Fisk's brother-in-law, and later managed the Nashua Pride and the New Bedford Bay Sox.
