1977 Topps #646 Andres Mora

About Andres Mora
Mora began 1977 at Triple-A Rochester and was called up by Baltimore in early June. It was his best major league season: he hit .245 with 13 home runs in 77 games. He drove in 44 runs and on August 15 homered twice against Minnesota's Dave Goltz and Gary Serum. Card #646 is his rookie card and shows him with the Orioles.
Andres Mora was a Mexican right-handed outfielder who played parts of four major league seasons, 1976 to 1980, for the Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians, hitting 27 home runs. He won his first Mexican League home run title in 1975 with Saltillo, and Baltimore bought his contract that August. After a 1980 spell in Cleveland he returned home by choice, still 24, and played in the Mexican League until 1997 for Saltillo, Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey. He retired with 419 Mexican League home runs, behind only Hector Espino at the time, and won four summer home run crowns and three in the Mexican Pacific League. He reached a personal best of 41 homers in 1985 with the Tecolotes and hit over .300 for eight straight seasons from 1983 to 1990. He was elected to the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003 and was named left fielder of the league's centennial all-time team in 2025. Mora died in Saltillo in 2015.
