1977 Topps #394 Bill Laxton

About Bill Laxton
Seattle took Laxton from Detroit in the 1976 expansion draft, and his rookie card, 1977 Topps #394, carried the Mariners name. On April 8, 1977, he earned his first major-league win and Seattle's first victory. He pitched the ninth inning before the Mariners scored twice to beat California, 7-6.
Bill Laxton was a left-handed pitcher for the Phillies, Padres, Tigers, Mariners and Indians in five major-league seasons. Pittsburgh selected him in the seventh round of the 1966 draft. In December 1967, the Pirates sent him, Harold Clem, Woodie Fryman and Don Money to Philadelphia for Jim Bunning. Laxton debuted with the Phillies in 1970, and San Diego took him in the ensuing Rule 5 draft. After signing with the Mets, he was traded with Rusty Staub to Detroit for Mickey Lolich and Billy Baldwin in December 1975. His career totaled 121 games and 189 strikeouts in 243 1/3 innings.
