1977 Topps #118 Rick Jones

About Rick Jones
Seattle selected Jones as its 11th pick in the 1976 expansion draft, reuniting him with manager Darrell Johnson. For Boston that year, Jones had gone 5-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 104 1/3 innings. Topps identified him with the Mariners on his 1977 rookie card, #118.
Rick Jones was a left-handed pitcher for Boston and Seattle. The Red Sox drafted him in the fifth round in 1973 from Jacksonville's Nathan Bedford Forrest High School. In 1975, he went 13-3 with a 2.11 ERA for Winston-Salem before earning a promotion to Bristol. An elbow injury ended his 1977 season in Seattle and required surgery. The Mariners traded him to Pittsburgh after the 1978 season, and he spent the next two years pitching for Portland. He played for the Mexico City Tigres in 1981. His major-league career totaled 37 games, a 6-9 record and a 4.02 ERA.
