About Grant Jackson
In 1977, his first season with Pittsburgh, Jackson went 5-3 with a 3.86 ERA. He saved four games in 49 appearances. His 1978 Topps card, #661, shows him with the Pirates. The next season he pitched in 60 games, going 7-5 with a 3.26 ERA.
Grant Jackson was a left-handed pitcher who spent eighteen seasons in the majors, debuting with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1965 and finishing with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1982. Signed out of Fostoria, Ohio by Phillies scout Tony Lucadello, he earned his only All-Star selection in 1969 as a Phillies starter. After a trade to the Baltimore Orioles he became a relief specialist, going 8-0 with a 1.90 ERA in 1973. A mid-season 1976 trade sent him to the New York Yankees, and he later helped Pittsburgh win the 1979 World Series, picking up the win in Game Seven. He also pitched for the Montreal Expos and Kansas City Royals. His repertoire featured a sinking fastball, a slider, a curveball and a changeup.
