About John Scott

Toronto sent Scott to St. Louis on December 16, 1977, completing the Pete Vuckovich trade for Victor Cruz and Tom Underwood. His 1978 Topps card, #547, retained the Blue Jays name. He spent that season with Triple-A Springfield, batting .281 with 12 home runs and 57 RBI. On October 23, 1978, St. Louis traded him to the White Sox for Jim Willoughby.

John Scott was a right-handed outfielder for the Padres and Blue Jays who later spent 3 seasons with Japan's Yakult Swallows. San Diego selected him second overall in the January 1970 regular draft out of Centennial High School in Compton, California. He reached the Padres in September 1974. With Triple-A Hawaii in 1976, he batted .315 with 15 home runs and 38 steals; Toronto bought his contract that October. He finished his major league career with 57 hits and a .222 average in 118 games. From 1979 through 1981, he hit .262 with 48 home runs and 159 RBI for Yakult.
