Beniquez played 127 games for Texas in 1978, batting .260 with 11 home runs and 50 RBI. It was his third year as a starter for the Rangers. That winter he went to the Yankees in a multi-player deal that also sent Dave Righetti east for Sparky Lyle. His 1978 Topps card is #238.

He broke in as a shortstop backing up Luis Aparicio with the Red Sox, then moved to center field, and he won the 1977 Gold Glove with Texas. He played in the 1975 World Series with Boston, and he hit over .300 each year from 1983 through 1986 with the Angels and Orioles, topping out at .336 in 1984. On June 12, 1986 he hit three home runs in one game for Baltimore. He finished with a .274 average, 79 home runs and 476 RBI. He stole 104 bases in 1,500 games and held the record for playing with eight American League teams. In 1989 he hit .359 for the St. Lucie Legends of the Senior Professional Baseball Association.
