1979 Topps #597 Bob Stanley

About Bob Stanley
Working mostly in relief in 1978, Stanley went 15-2 with a 2.60 ERA and 10 saves for Boston. His 1979 Topps #597 kept the Red Sox affiliation. In 1979 he moved into the rotation, making 30 starts, winning 16 games and receiving his first All-Star selection.
Bob Stanley used a sinking fastball in 13 seasons spent entirely with the Boston Red Sox, alternating between starting and relief assignments. Boston selected him in the first round of the January 1974 secondary draft. He developed at Elmira, Winter Haven and Bristol before reaching the majors. In 1983, he saved 33 games and earned an All-Star selection. During Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, his wild pitch allowed Kevin Mitchell to score the tying run in the tenth inning. Stanley finished his career with 637 appearances, 115 wins and 132 saves. The Red Sox inducted him into their team Hall of Fame in 2000.
