About Danny Goodwin

Goodwin hit .360 with 25 home runs for El Paso in 1978 and .276 in 24 games with California. The Angels traded him and Ron Jackson to Minnesota for Dan Ford that offseason. His 1979 Topps rookie card, #322, listed California; he batted .289 with 5 homers for the Twins that year.

Danny Goodwin played first base and served as a designated hitter for the Angels, Twins and Athletics. The White Sox drafted the Peoria High School catcher first overall in 1971, but he accepted a scholarship to Southern University. He earned a pre-med degree in zoology and was a three-time collegiate All-American before the Angels selected him first overall in 1975. A throwing-arm injury in their farm system shifted his work toward first base and designated hitting. Goodwin played seven major-league seasons, batting .236 with 13 home runs in 252 games, and spent 1986 with Japan's Nankai Hawks. He entered the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011.
