About Dyar Miller

The Angels carry him on #313, but on June 6, 1979 they sold him to Toronto. Between the two clubs he appeared in 24 games and went 1-0 with a 5.51 ERA over 50 2/3 innings. His one start that year was the only one of his major league career. In 1980 he moved to the Mets and posted a 1.93 ERA in 31 games.

Dyar Miller was a right-handed reliever who pitched seven major league seasons, 1975 to 1981, for the Orioles, Angels, Blue Jays and Mets, going 23-17 with a 3.23 ERA in 251 games. Born in Batesville, Indiana, he graduated from Utah State with a history degree and signed with the Phillies as a catcher in 1968, only to be released three weeks later. The Orioles signed him in 1969 after scout Jim Frey, a relative by marriage, arranged an invitation to spring training as a pitcher. A slider learned in the Mexican Pacific League in the winter of 1972-73 helped him become a Rochester Red Wings starter, and Earl Weaver kept him in the minors in spring 1975 despite a 1.80 ERA. Moved to relief, he was called up to Baltimore on his 29th birthday. After playing in the Cardinals system through 1984, he coached for more than two decades, including the Cardinals' bullpen in 2012, and retired after the 2018 season.
