1979 Topps #312 Bob Robertson

About Bob Robertson
Robertson hit .230 with 8 home runs and 28 RBI in 64 games for the 1978 Mariners, working as a part-time first baseman and designated hitter. His 1979 Topps card, #312, pictures him with Seattle. Released, he signed with Toronto a few weeks into the 1979 season as a backup to John Mayberry. He hit his only Blue Jays home run on April 29, a go-ahead shot in a 5-3 win over Milwaukee, and batted .103 in 15 games.
Robert Eugene Robertson, born October 2, 1946 in Frostburg, Maryland, and raised in Mount Savage, was a first baseman who played parts of eleven big league seasons, mostly with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Touted early as a power prospect after leading the minor leagues in home runs three times, he played on the Pirates teams that won five National League East titles in six years from 1970 to 1975. In 1970 he batted .287 with 27 home runs. In the 1971 postseason he hit six home runs, three of them in one NLCS game, a single-postseason record that went unsurpassed for three decades, and he helped Pittsburgh beat Baltimore in the World Series. After knee surgery in 1974 he moved into part-time roles, closing his career with the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. He appeared in 829 games and hit .242 with 115 home runs.
