1979 Topps #103 Jim Todd

About Jim Todd
The Mariners released Todd in February 1979, and he returned to Oakland. The A's lost 108 games, and he posted a 6.56 ERA in 51 appearances, walking nearly twice as many batters as he struck out. His 1979 Topps card, #103, still shows him with Seattle.
Jim Todd was a right-handed reliever who pitched in the majors from 1974 to 1979 for the Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners. He pitched in college for Parsons College and Millersville State College and was drafted by the Cubs in the 10th round of the 1969 draft. His best season came in 1975, when he served as the A's secondary closer behind Rollie Fingers and went 8-3 with 12 saves and a 2.29 ERA, all career bests. He drew five votes on the American League MVP ballot for the division champions. He pitched in each game of the ALCS, which Oakland lost to the Boston Red Sox. He finished 25-23 with a 4.23 ERA and 24 saves. After being released by the A's in the spring of 1980 he pitched one more season for the Phoenix Giants and retired. He died in Parker, Colorado, in 2025 at 77.
