Juan Bernhardt was a Dominican infielder and designated hitter who played parts of four major league seasons, 1976 with the New York Yankees and 1977 to 1979 with the Seattle Mariners. He signed with the Yankees in August 1970 and led the Eastern League in batting in 1975 while with West Haven. The Yankees called him up in July 1976, and he debuted on July 10 against the White Sox. Seattle selected him in the 1976 expansion draft, and on Opening Day 1977 he went 5-for-5 with a home run, the first in Mariners history. His last major league appearance came on April 8, 1979, a hit in his only at-bat. Seattle traded him to the White Sox for Rich Hinton that July, and he played in the Mexican League from 1980 to 1983, serving as player-manager of Campeche in 1981 and 1982. His major league totals were a .238 average, 9 home runs and 43 RBI.
