1979 Topps #252 Bob Stinson

About Bob Stinson
Seattle acquired Larry Cox from the Cubs in March 1979, and Stinson's workload shrank. Card #252 lists him with the Mariners. He still caught 91 games that year, to Cox's 99. He hit .243 with 6 home runs and 28 RBI. In 1980 Cox became the regular and Jerry Narron took the backup job. Stinson played his last game on August 1, 1980.
Bob Stinson was a switch-hitting catcher who played 652 major league games between 1969 and 1980 for six clubs: the Dodgers, Cardinals, Astros, Expos, Royals and Mariners. A Miami high school product who went unsigned after being drafted by both Kansas City and Washington, he reached the majors with the Dodgers in 1969. He had been a backup before joining the expansion Seattle Mariners, who made him their primary catcher in 1977 and 1978. He finished with a .250 average, 33 home runs and 180 RBI. Seattle released him in August 1980.
