1979 Topps #233 Paul Mitchell

About Paul Mitchell
On #233 of the 1979 Topps set Mitchell is again shown with Seattle. That year the Mariners traded him to Milwaukee for Randy Stein, and he split the year between the two clubs, 28 games with 14 starts and a 5.32 ERA. His last major league appearance came for the Brewers on September 21, 1980, against Seattle.
Paul Mitchell was a right-handed starting pitcher who worked six major league seasons, 1975 to 1980, for the Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers. A Worcester, Massachusetts native, he pitched at Old Dominion University and for the Falmouth Commodores of the Cape Cod League. Falmouth won the league title in each of his three summers there, and he was named the league's outstanding pitcher in 1969 and 1970. Baltimore took him seventh overall in the secondary phase of the 1971 draft. He debuted on July 1, 1975, at Fenway Park and finished 3-0 with a 3.63 ERA. His major league line was 32-39 with a 4.45 ERA over 125 games and 621 1/3 innings. He handled 114 chances in the field without an error, a perfect 1.000 career fielding percentage that ties the record for pitchers with at least 500 innings. He was inducted into the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame in 2002.
