1979 Topps #246 Darrell Jackson

About Darrell Jackson
Jackson's Minnesota rookie card, 1979 Topps #246, followed a 1978 debut season in which he made 15 starts in 19 games. He went 4-6 with a 4.48 ERA in 92 1/3 innings. His only major-league shutout came against Oakland on July 7 that year.
Minnesota left-hander Darrell Jackson pitched 5 major-league seasons after helping Arizona State win the 1977 College World Series. He had played alongside Eddie Murray and Ozzie Smith at Locke High School in Los Angeles. The Twins drafted him in 1973, but he attended Arizona State before signing after Minnesota selected him again in 1977. Jackson began his professional career with Double-A Orlando in 1978, throwing 9 hitless innings in his first start. The score remained 0-0 when Jeff Holly relieved him, and Orlando won in 12 innings. Jackson won a career-high 9 games for Minnesota in 1980. A shoulder injury limited him to 14 major-league appearances the following year.
