1979 Topps #81 Roger Erickson

About Roger Erickson
In 1978, Erickson led Minnesota with 37 starts, 14 complete games and 265 2/3 innings. He finished 14-13 with a 3.96 ERA. His rookie card, 1979 Topps #81, listed him with the Twins. In his first start of 1979, he pitched nine innings of four-hit ball in Oakland.
Roger Erickson was a right-handed starter for Minnesota and the Yankees. Former Senators infielder John Schaive helped him move from Springfield College to the University of New Orleans by recommending him to coach Ron Maestri. The Twins drafted him in the third round in 1977 and sent him directly to Double-A Orlando, where he went 8-4 with a 1.98 ERA. Minnesota traded him with Butch Wynegar to the Yankees for Larry Milbourne, John Pacella and Pete Filson in 1982. Across six major-league seasons, Erickson won 35 games and struck out 365 batters. He continued pitching in the minors through 1987.
