1979 Topps #113 Pete Redfern

About Pete Redfern
Redfern moved mainly to relief in 1979, making six starts in 40 pitching appearances for Minnesota. He went 7-3 with a 3.49 ERA and recorded his first major league save. He struck out 85 in 108 1/3 innings. His Topps card was #113, listing him with the Twins.
Pete Redfern spent all seven of his major league seasons, 1976-1982, pitching for the Minnesota Twins. The right-hander was the first selection in the secondary phase of the 1976 draft. After four games with Tacoma, he debuted against the Angels on May 15, 1976. He held California hitless for five innings before Bobby Bonds hit a grand slam in the sixth; Redfern earned the win in a 15-5 game. His career totals were 42-48 with a 4.54 ERA. He made 170 pitching appearances, 111 of them starts. In 1981 he went 9-8 over 141 2/3 innings. Minnesota released him on March 25, 1983. He disputed his severance, with his lawyers saying X-rays showed an elbow injury. He then signed with the Dodgers and pitched six games for Albuquerque. A diving accident at Newport Beach that October left him paralyzed and ended his playing career.
