1979 Topps #9 Dave Campbell

About Dave Campbell
Card #9 in the 1979 Topps set carries Campbell with the Atlanta Braves, though his last big league game had come on October 1, 1978. The 1979 season found him in the Montreal organization rather than in Atlanta. He finished his career with one hit in 12 at-bats, all of them in 1977.
Dave Campbell was a right-handed reliever who pitched two seasons for the Atlanta Braves, 1977 and 1978, and made 118 appearances without a start. The Braves signed him as an amateur free agent in 1974, and he spent two and a half seasons in the minors before reaching Atlanta. In 1977 he went 0-6 with a 3.05 ERA over 88 2/3 innings and saved 13 games, tenth in the National League. The following spring the Braves traded him to the Montreal Expos for infielder Pepe Frias, and he spent the next three seasons with the Expos' top farm club, the Denver Bears, without returning to the majors. His big league line closed at 4-10 with a 3.82 ERA and 14 saves. Born in Princeton, Indiana, he stood 6 ft 3 in and threw and batted right-handed.
