1979 Topps #105 Rick Camp

About Rick Camp
Camp's 1979 Topps card, #105, shows him with the Braves. It followed a 1978 season in which he went 0-for-8 at the plate with one run scored. He did not appear in the majors in 1979, and his next big league season was 1980.
Rick Camp was a right-handed pitcher from Trion, Georgia, who spent all nine of his major league seasons with the Atlanta Braves, 1976 to 1985. Used mostly in relief, he saved 22 games with a 1.91 ERA in 77 appearances in 1980 and went 9-3 with a 1.78 ERA and 17 saves in the strike-shortened 1981 season. In 1982 he moved into the rotation, started 21 games, went 11-13 and pitched an inning in the NLCS against St. Louis. He finished 56-49 with a 3.37 ERA and 57 saves. A game against the Mets that began on July 4, 1985, and ended at 3:55 on the morning of July 5 produced the only home run of his career. With the Braves out of position players, Camp batted in the 18th inning and hit a game-tying shot off Tom Gorman, then struck out in the 19th and took the loss. He died in 2013.
