1979 Topps #168 Dave Freisleben

About Dave Freisleben
Cleveland sent Freisleben to Toronto for a player to be named later, and the Blue Jays used him almost exclusively in relief. He went 2-3 with a 4.95 ERA and three saves in 42 games. On August 6 he relieved Dave Stieb against Kansas City with the Jays leading 5-4 and was pulled after five runs scored without an out. Card #168 shows him with the Indians.
Dave Freisleben was a right-handed starting pitcher who worked 202 major league games from 1974 to 1979 for the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians and Toronto Blue Jays, finishing 34-60 with a 4.30 ERA. A quarterback and pitcher at Sam Rayburn High School, he was a fifth-round Padres pick in 1971 and was Texas League Pitcher of the Year in 1972, when he went 17-9 with a 2.32 ERA for Alexandria. He modeled prototype Washington Stars road uniforms in publicity photos when the Padres seemed headed to Washington, D.C., a move that fell through. He spent four seasons in the San Diego rotation. After his release at the end of 1979 he attended 1980 spring training with the California Angels but did not make the team. He later coached in the Texas Rangers minor league system and became a saltwater fishing guide on Galveston Bay, near his home in San Leon, Texas.
