1979 Topps #150 Wayne Cage

About Wayne Cage
Card #150 is Cage's own, with the Indians, issued after a rookie year of 36 games, a .245 average and four home runs. In 1979 he appeared in 29 games and hit .232 with one home run, and his last major league game came on September 30.
Wayne Cage was a left-handed first baseman who played 65 games for the Cleveland Indians across 1978 and 1979, hitting .240 with five home runs. He came from Ruston, Louisiana, where his high school baseball team went undefeated in his junior and senior years, and Cleveland drafted him in the third round in 1971 as a pitcher. A sore throwing arm moved him to first base in 1973. He later wrote that Yankee Stadium was his favorite park to play in. After a 1980 spent in the minors, he refused to sign with Cleveland in February 1981 and was traded to the Seattle Mariners for outfielder Rod Craig on March 26. Seattle sold him to the Hankyu Braves of Japan on April 2, and he hit 62 home runs for them in 1981 and 1982. He then played in the Mexican League for Yucatan in 1983 and Veracruz in 1984.
