1979 Topps #13 Paul Dade

About Paul Dade
Cleveland acquired Bobby Bonds the day after the 1978 season ended, and Dade spent the spring of 1979 competing with four others for left field. He made his first start there on May 4 and on May 27 went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in a 5-0 win over Ron Guidry and the Yankees. On June 14 the Indians traded him to San Diego for Mike Hargrove, and he stole 25 bases between the two clubs. His 1979 Topps card, #13, lists him with Cleveland.
Paul Dade was a Seattle-born outfielder and third baseman who played six major league seasons for the Angels, Indians and Padres between 1975 and 1980. California took him with the 10th pick of the 1970 draft out of Nathan Hale High School, and his teammates at El Paso called him The Executioner for his fierce play. After the Angels sent him back to Triple-A in 1976, he won the Pacific Coast League batting title at .363, then signed with Cleveland as a free agent and wore double-zero on his back, explaining that nothing for nothing equals two zeros. His 1977 season with the Indians produced career highs of 134 games, 134 hits and 45 RBI. He finished with a .270 average and 57 stolen bases in 439 games, spent 1981 with the Hanshin Tigers in Japan, and died in Seattle in 2016.
