1979 Topps #33 Dave Rozema

About Dave Rozema
Rozema went 9-12 in 1978 with 11 complete games and 209 1/3 innings. His 1979 Topps card, #33, again lists him with Detroit. On April 22, 1979, he pitched a three-hitter against Toronto in 88 pitches. A recurrence of shoulder pain limited him to 16 starts.
Dave Rozema pitched right-handed for Detroit and Texas over 10 major league seasons, working both as a starter and in relief. The Tigers selected him in the fourth round of the January 1975 draft after he attended Grand Rapids Junior College. At Class A Clinton, manager Jim Leyland moved him from the bullpen to the rotation, and pitching instructor John Grodzicki taught him a changeup. He went 12-4 with a 1.57 ERA for Double-A Montgomery the next year. Rozema won 7 games for the 1984 World Series champion Tigers before pitching mainly in relief for Texas. He finished 60-53 with a 3.47 ERA in 1,106 innings. In December 1985, he and Kirk Gibson married sisters in a double wedding.
