About this card

Cards #701-726 are the 26 three-player Prospects cards, one per club - AL clubs first, each league in alphabetical order by city - with black-and-white player photos on the front. A Prospects card is a rookie card for the players on it who had no earlier Topps flagship card. On #703, #705, #712, #718 and #723, one or two of the players never reached the major leagues.

The story on this card

Guerrero's first major-league at-bat, in September 1978, was a pinch-hit single off Randy Jones. He collected 5 hits in 8 at-bats during the call-up. His 1979 Topps rookie card, #719, groups him with fellow Dodgers Rudy Law and Joe Simpson in the Prospects subset. In 1985, Dodgers outfielder Pedro Guerrero hit 15 home runs in June and reached base 14 consecutive times during one stretch. He led the National League in both on-base percentage and slugging percentage that season.

A September call-up gave Law 11 games with Los Angeles in 1978. The Dodgers' 1979 Topps Prospects card, #719, was his rookie card alongside Pedro Guerrero and Joe Simpson. Law spent 1979 at Triple-A Albuquerque, where a left knee injury cost him two months. He batted .296 with 33 steals in 72 games. White Sox outfielder Rudy Law broke up Dave Stieb's no-hit bid on August 24, 1985. His home run leading off the ninth inning gave Chicago its first hit against the Toronto pitcher.

After playing 10 games for Los Angeles in 1978, Simpson shared 1979 Topps #719 with Pedro Guerrero and Rudy Law. All 3 were listed with the Dodgers on the Prospects card, a rookie card for each. Simpson played for Seattle in 1979, batting .283 with 27 RBI in 120 games. Royals outfielder and first baseman Joe Simpson also pitched in 2 games during the 1983 season. He allowed 1 run in 3 innings and struck out 1 batter.
