1979 Topps #347 Doug Rau

About Doug Rau
Rau started all 11 of his 1979 appearances, going 1-5 with a 5.30 ERA. He completed one of them, a shutout, and struck out 28 batters in 56 innings. At the plate he was 2 for 14. Card #347 lists him with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Doug Rau was a left-handed starter who spent nearly all of his big-league career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. A Texas A&M product, he was the Dodgers' first-round pick in the secondary phase of the June 1970 draft and reached Los Angeles in September 1972. He moved into the rotation in 1974, and the club took National League pennants in 1974, 1977 and 1978. His 2.57 ERA in 1976 ranked second in the league. Rotator cuff trouble ended his 1979 season early and led to surgery. He was out of the majors in 1980, made three starts for the California Angels in 1981 and pitched his last game on May 26 of that year. He finished 81-60 with a 3.35 ERA in 222 games.
