About Jack Clark

Clark earned a second All-Star selection in 1979, batting .273 with 26 home runs and 86 RBI, both second on the Giants. The year included the firing of manager Joe Altobelli, a move Clark bristled at. His card that year is #512, with the Giants.

Jack Clark was a right-handed outfielder and first baseman who hit 340 home runs and drove in 1,180 runs over 18 seasons, from 1975 to 1992. He spent ten years with the San Francisco Giants, then played for the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox. The Giants signed him as a 13th-round pick in 1973, and he pitched five games in the Rookie league before a manager moved him to the field. He made four All-Star teams (1978, 1979, 1985, 1987) and won Silver Slugger awards at first base in 1985 and 1987. His three-run homer against the Dodgers in Game 6 of the 1985 NLCS clinched the pennant for St. Louis, and in 1987 he hit 35 home runs with 106 RBI and finished third in the MVP vote. In 1990 he feuded publicly with Padres teammate Tony Gwynn, calling him selfish for bunting with runners in scoring position. He finished with 1,826 hits and a .267 average.
