1979 Topps #429 John Urrea

About John Urrea
The Cardinals used Urrea in 27 games, including 12 starts, in 1978. He struck out 61 batters in 98 2/3 innings. His 1979 Topps card, #429, again listed the Cardinals. That season he pitched in 3 major league games, making 2 starts.
John Urrea, born in Los Angeles, was a right-handed pitcher who debuted with St. Louis on April 10, 1977, and spent five major league seasons with the Cardinals and Padres. The Cardinals had selected him 14th overall in the January 1974 draft. On December 8, 1980, St. Louis sent him to San Diego in the trade that brought Rollie Fingers, Gene Tenace and Bob Shirley to the Cardinals. Urrea worked entirely in relief for the 1981 Padres, posting a 2.39 ERA in 38 appearances. He finished his major league career with 17 wins, 9 saves and a 3.74 ERA in 363 1/3 innings.
