1979 Topps #478 Juan Beniquez

About Juan Beniquez
The 1979 Topps card, #478, still lists Beniquez with Texas, but he spent the season with the Yankees after the winter trade. He appeared in 62 games, hitting .254 with 4 home runs and 17 RBI. The following winter New York dealt him to the Seattle Mariners, where he played 70 games in 1980.
Juan Beniquez was a Puerto Rican outfielder who played 17 big-league seasons, 1971 to 1988, for eight American League clubs: Boston, Texas, the Yankees, Seattle, California, Baltimore, Kansas City and Toronto. He broke in as a shortstop backing up Luis Aparicio with the Red Sox, then moved to center field, and he won the 1977 Gold Glove with Texas. He played in the 1975 World Series with Boston, and he hit over .300 each year from 1983 through 1986 with the Angels and Orioles, topping out at .336 in 1984. On June 12, 1986 he hit three home runs in one game for Baltimore. He finished with a .274 average, 79 home runs and 476 RBI. He stole 104 bases in 1,500 games and held the record for playing with eight American League teams. In 1989 he hit .359 for the St. Lucie Legends of the Senior Professional Baseball Association.
